Frequently Asked Questions

Mobilis

For which applications was your conductor system developed?

Our Mobilis conductor system was developed for the electrification of many types of mobile machines in applications where a trailing cable is either undesirable or impractical.

Mobilis Elite is ideal for the travelling cranes and standard lifting equipment, but also façade elevator installations, electrical industrial doors such as airplane hangars, sliding roofs for swimming pool or stadium, textile folding and cutting installations, assembly, test or control lines...

Mobilis Movit is particularly suited to high capacity overhead cranes, long lines, gantry cranes, the port industry and the human transport.

What is the difference between Mobilis Elite and Mobilis Movit?

They are complementary products :

  • Mobilis Elite is a Multi-pole conductor rail 4 or 5 poles, intensities 20A, 40A, 60A, 100A, 130A, 160A and 200A,
  • Mobilis Movit is a Unipole conductor rail, for higher intensities, the number of poles is not limited - intensities 315A, 450A and 630A.

What are the advantages of Mobilis?

The main advantages are the security (IP23 = Finger safe), the ease and speed assembly and the ease of maintenance. Mobilis is also differentiated by its well finished design, long length of lines without expansion joints and an excellent value for money.

Can Mobilis rails be installed outside?

Yes, the protection index is IP23, where the 3 signifies that the equipment is protected against rainwater falling at a maximum angle of 60° in relation to the vertical plane. Consequently, the Mobilis range is designed for both inside and external use.

What are the environments to avoid?

Mobilis rails are not recommended in environments where the atmosphere is corrosive because of fumes or chemical products or when abrasive particles are present in the air. In case of marine environment, additional maintenance measures must be considered.

What are the possible lengths of lines without expansion joints?

  • 140m in 20 A
  • 150m in 40 A, 60 A and 100 A
  • 250m in 130 A, 160 A and 200 A
  • 350m in 315A and 450A
  • 250m in 630A

Where must the fixed hangers be assembled?

To have a well-balanced line, the fixed hangers are always fitted in the centre of the line or midway of line sections on each side of expansion joints (excepted lines with transfer elements and/or curves).

Where must the in-line feed boxes be assembled?

Mobilis Elite : The in-line feed box for intensities up to 100 A can be installed at any junction of 2 line elements. The pre-mounted in-line feed boxes (130 A, 160 A and 200 A) are installed in the line like a standard line element, at your most convenient place.

Mobilis Movit : The in-line feed box can be installed at any junction of 2 line elements.

In both cases the location of the in-line feed boxes is not connected with the location of the fixed hangers, but it is defined by the calculation of the voltage drop.

When must the protection lips be used?

With Mobilis Elite the protection lips must be used in dusty but dry environment. It is not recommended to use them in humid environments, because a good air circulation must be present to evacuate humidity.

Mobilis Movit does not offer the option of protection lips. Yet, the principle of the Unipole conductor rail Mobilis Movit allows making an easy inspection and maintenance of the contact tracks.

What is the minimum radius of the curves?

Curves can be manufactured with a minimum radius 800 mm for an angle up to 120°. For any special installations, please enquire to our sales office.

What is the maximum speed of the collector trolleys?

Mobilis Elite : The standard collector trolley is developed for applications running up to 100 m/min.

A high speed collector trolley is available for speeds of maximal 150 to 180 m/min depending on the conditions of use.

Mobilis Movit : The collector is developed for applications running up to 600 m/min.

When must the articulated trolley be used?

It is imperative to use the articulated trolleys for lines of conductor system integrating curves, in order to guarantee an optimal guiding.

When must the cleaning trolley be used?

The cleaning trolley is recommended for the maintenance of the conductors in following cases:

  • Dusty environment,
  • Marine environment,
  • Slight surface roughness on the conductors,
  • Projection of particles towards the line.

When must a maintenance inspection be planned?

Inspection is required when the distance covered reaches 3,000 km or after one year of use at the most. For further information, see our catalogue Elite page 33.

Is cutting of the lines on site possible?

Mobilis Elite : Yes it is, on line elements placed at the ends (see Elite Assembly Instructions). Yet, this cut element will have to be changed in case of a line extension at the cut end. In the case of an end-line feed box, the copper conductors must be bent at 90° to the profile and a hole drilled to allow for connection of the supply cable.

Mobilis Movit : Yes, but the standard end configuration must be reproduced, ie approx 50mm difference in length between conductor and PVC envelop and drill the cut end (for the connection in case of a possible extension)

How can the maintenance be done on a line equipped with several collector trolleys?

In all cases, the line must be switched off.

Mobilis Elite : Either by disconnecting the collector trolleys to be able to drive them out at the end of the line, or at a connection (the connections screws have to be replaced), or for long lines thanks to a special line element called «introduction gate» (see our Elite catalogue).

Mobilis Movit : In any place of the line, the head of the collector can be extracted from the line by pulling it downward.

How long is the conductor system guaranteed?

1 year against material or manufacturing defect recognised by ourselves. See details of our guarantee in our Elite catalogue.

However, our conductor system is developed for a life time of 20 years in normal industrial environment.
